FAQs – Your Questions Answered

We know that selecting the right tuition provider is a big decision for your child’s education. To help you make an informed choice, here are answers to some frequently asked questions about our maths and English tutoring services.

We collaborate with each child and their family to understand their unique learning needs and determine whether our tools and tutors are the right fit to help them achieve their goals.

Parents often tell us that White Collar provides an environment where their child can learn differently—whether that means using computers and headphones, receiving support in a smaller tutor-to-student ratio, accessing colored screens or audio instructions for better comprehension, or benefiting from an individualized programmed that removes any stigma about working at a specific level.

Every child learns differently, and our tutors tailor their approach to match each child’s pace and needs. By building confidence and skills in a way that works best for them, we empower children to carry their learning success back into the classroom and beyond.

Online tutoring at White Collar is a highly effective learning experience. Your child has weekly online lessons, working on a bespoke curriculum, supported by a highly skilled online tutor. It’s everything you’d expect from face-to-face private tuition just delivered via live video in the comfort of your home rather than in a classroom or learning Centre. We’re delighted to support families with this option for distance learning, meaning that more families across the UK can access the benefits of White Collar tuition.

We have a range of strategies to support children in various aspects of learning, including:

  • Concentration – Techniques to improve focus and engagement.
  • Academic progress and retention – Methods to help children retain and apply new skills effectively.
  • Social interactions and confidence – Encouraging positive communication and self-assurance in learning.
  • Audio and visual processing – Tailored support for children who learn best through auditory or visual methods.
  • Coordination and motor skills – Activities designed to enhance fine and gross motor skills for better learning.
  • Phonological processing and spelling – Strengthening language skills through structured approaches.
  • Organisation and sequencing – Helping children structure their thoughts and tasks effectively.
  • Attitude towards learning – Building a growth mindset and fostering a love for learning.

Our tutors use these strategies to create a personalised and effective learning experience, ensuring every child can progress with confidence.

We are proud to support approximately 4,000 students with SEND across our learning centers and online, making up around 15% of our total membership. Our tailored approach ensures that every child receives the right level of support, challenge, and encouragement to thrive in their learning journey.

No, White Collar tutors are not SEN specialists, but they are dedicated to working with each child as an individual. Our tutors adapt their teaching styles to meet your child’s unique needs, ensuring they feel supported and encouraged. They serve as ultimate cheerleaders—patient, kind, and committed to celebrating every success while instilling positive learning habits.

We can’t guarantee that your child will have the same tutor every session. However, we ensure that every tutor working with your child is fully informed about their needs and learning preferences. This approach provides a consistent and positive experience, while also gently introducing change and flexibility—helping many children adapt to new environments with confidence.

We offer a free trial session to help determine if the White-Collar approach is the right fit for your child. During the trial, children will listen and follow a tutor’s instructions while answering questions on a computer or tablet, aligned with the National Curriculum. To ensure the best experience, children should be able to engage independently, without parental support. If a child is unable to access the Early Years curriculum, they may not yet be ready for White Collar tuition.

Yes, many families use White Collar to complement their home-schooling efforts. Our vibrant learning centers provide children with opportunities to socialize and engage in a structured learning environment in small, manageable sessions. Each child follows a personalised curriculum tailored to their level and pace of learning.

While home-schooling does not require adherence to the National Curriculum, incorporating curriculum-mapped learning can be beneficial if you plan for your child to take qualifications or transition back to school in the future. White Collar is here to support you with this.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple and voluntary way for children and adults to indicate that they have a hidden disability or condition that may not be immediately visible. It serves as a gentle signal that they might need extra support, understanding, or time in different environments.

At White Collar, we welcome any child who chooses to wear the sunflower lanyard, though there is absolutely no pressure to do so. Our team is dedicated to making sure that every child has a smooth, welcoming, and supportive experience in our centers, regardless of whether they wear a lanyard or not.

At White Collar, we cannot provide an official diagnosis, but we do offer regular feedback and detailed reports to help you understand your child’s learning needs and progress.

If your child already has an EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) or a learning plan from school, we encourage you to share it with us. This allows us to complement the support your child is receiving at school and tailor our approach to best suit their individual learning journey.

At White Collar, we prioritise your child’s safety and wellbeing.

  • All our staff undergo regular safeguarding training and have Enhanced DBS/PVG checks.
  • Our centres in England are registered with Ofsted.
  • Tutors are supervised in centres, and for online sessions, a management team member monitors sessions to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
