We understand that choosing the right tuition provider is an important decision. Here are some frequently asked questions about our maths and English tutoring services.

SATs are formal National Curriculum tests that assess a child’s academic level against the national average. Taken at the end of Year 2 and Year 6, these tests evaluate a student’s understanding of various skills and concepts. Schools use the results to measure progress, while the government utilizes the data to ensure educational standards are maintained.

Your child’s school curriculum is designed to prepare them for SATs, and you can support their progress by assisting with homework, reading together daily, and practicing spellings and times tables regularly.White Collar Tutors tuition provides additional support, reinforcing what they learn in school and equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to perform their best in the exams.

Here are four key ways to support your child in their upcoming exams:

  • Practise mental maths – Regularly challenge your child with quick calculations to improve their number fluency.
  • Encourage your child to read – Reading a variety of texts helps build comprehension skills and boosts vocabulary.
  • Focus on problem-solving – Discuss different approaches to solving problems to enhance their critical thinking.
  • Work through SATs practice papers together – Familiarising them with the format and timing of the test can boost their confidence.

Key Stage 1 SATs are taken at the end of Year 2 and are internally assessed and marked by teachers. Since September 2023, these tests have become optional, with schools deciding whether to administer them.

Key Stage 2 SATs, taken at the end of Year 6, are formally assessed, marked externally, and the results are published by the government.

Both sets of SATs focus on core maths and English skills, helping to measure students’ progress and understanding.

The government sets specific standards for students to meet the national level compared to their peers. While the expected standard varies for writing, reading, and maths, the concept remains consistent across all tests.
